Before
even being close to release, WSC is a growing success story. The entire sim racing
community is enthusiastically discussing it. It's hardly surprising ; from what info we've
been painstakingly able to gather, WSC promises to be THE Y2K racing sim. The grapevine
murmurings would even have us believe that WSC could surpass the legendary Grand Prix
Legends in terms of unadulterated realism. Meanwhile, prudence is recommended as the truth
will only come in the driving.
WSC is being developped by West Racing, an England-based team composed of Chris West for
physics and programming, Tony West for graphics and... that's it. Yep, there are only two
twin brothers working on Worls Sports Cars, and this for the last 4 years, which is a
pretty unique state of affaires in the world of multimedia. WSCZone thinks this could be a
good sign, since the smaller the team is, the more focused the ideas are. And when one is
familiar with the West bros' sim racing ideas, then that's no bad thing. It's a situation
that is reminiscent of Geoff Crammond who was pretty much left on his own to develop the
excellent GP2. Or David Braben who single-handedly spent 5 years writing and coding the
mythical Elite 2 space trading sim.
WSC will appeal (and that's a euphemism) to drivers who like pedigree racing machines and
like their sims to be hard and uncompromising - as far from the arcade-lads philosophy as
possible. As a reflection of the present sports racing competition, WSC will not be based
on any single racing class or event. The game will offer a great mix of challenging
circuits and extraordinary racing machines ; it will then be up to the players to make up
their own leagues. This unique approach promises to be fascinating : imagine, if you will,
a mix of GT1 and GT2 modern endu rance racers fighting it out with older group C sports
racing cars. Thrilling. Besides, endurance starting grids have often been made up of cars
with extremely varied levels of track performance (remember Steve Mcqueen coming up on
that slower 911 in the film LeMans?).
So, save up for some hardware boosting and get ready for months if not years of intense
leisure, sawing at the wheel of some of the most desirable machines ever to grace tarmac.
